Guided Tour of Padua – Half Day

• 08.30 am or 2.30 pm: meeting with the guide at the equestrian monument to Gattamelat in front of the Basilica of St. Anthony;
• Visit to the inside of the Basilica, a place where devotion is inseparably intertwined with the art; inside it there will be an artistic overview of the followers of Giotto, then Donatello with its beautiful Renaissance, the Baroque, ending with contemporary art of Annigoni.
• Nice walk through Padua historic centre; the medieval square animated by markets
• Visit to the Palace of Reason and the Palazzo del Bo, seat of the University of Padua;
• Rest at the famous Cafè Pedrocchi;
• End of the tour at about 12.00 am or 5.30 pm.

Guided tour of the Scrovegni Chapel – 40 minutes
Every afternoon from July 11 to July 13, 2012

• visits available from 2.00 pm to 6.00 pm: meeting with the guide at the entrance for the guided tour of the Chapel Scrovegni, frescoed by Giotto in the XIV century.
Giotto paints humanity, his figures are flesh, they have emotions and they move in a real environment.
With him painting slowly makes its first steps to the Renaissance.
The Chapel Scrovegni is a painting masterpiece of  Italian and European fourteenth century and it is considered the most complete cycle of frescoes painted by Giotto in his mature.
Colour and light, poetry and pathos. Man and God. The sense of nature and history, the sense of humanity and faith fused to tell the uniqueness story of the Madonna and Christ. Giotto completed the Chapel frescoes within the first months of 1306.
On this date “..the Chapel has a very simple architecture: a rectangular room with vaulted ceiling, an elegant three-mullioned Gothic façade, tall, narrow windows on the south wall, then a polygonal apse raised for the cell bell”.
The cycle of paintings of the chapel is built on three main themes: episodes of life of Gioacchino and Anna (frames 1-6), episodes from the life of Mary (frames 7-13) and episodes of life and death of Christ. Below these frescoes, a series of panels illustrate the allegories of the Virtues and Vices.
The maximum time for the visit is 20 minutes.

Guided tour of the Basilica del Santo - 60 minutes

• visits available from 2.00 pm to 6.00 pm: meeting with the guide at the foot of the statue of Gattamelata in front of the Basilica of Sant’Anthony  for a guided tour of the interior;
The Basilca of St. Anthony better known as the Basilica del Santo is a majestic and complex religious building, begun in 1232, a year after the death of St.Anthony.
The exterior of the cathedral is a mixture of Lombard, Tuscan and Byzantine; the two towers and the eight domes are oriental style. The interior preserves the saint's body in a coffin (Ark) located in the beautiful Chapel of the Holy, by various artists including Tullio Lombardo, Andrea Briosco and Gianmaria Falconetto.
The cathedral hosts significant works of ancient and contemporary art including the Chapel of Blessed Luke Belludi frescoed by Giusto de 'Menabuoi (1382), the Chapel of St. James and St. Felix with a beautiful painted cycle Altichieri from Zevio (1374 -78), the high altar with sculptures by Donatello among which the Crucifixion (His is also the equestrian monument to the "Gattamelata" the square of the Basilica) and then works of the school of Giotto, of Sansovino, Briosco, Sanmicheli, Parodi, Achille Casanova, Ubaldo Oppie, Pietro Annigoni.
There are also the beautiful cloisters of the convent, especially the cloister of magnolia full of marble memories.

Guided tour of Palazzo della Ragione – 60 minutes

• visits available from 2.00 pm to 6.00 pm: meeting with  the guide at the stairway of the Palazzo della Ragione for the guided tour of the interior;
The Palazzo della Ragione was built in 1218 and raised in 1306 and it was the seat of city courts until 1797.
The upper floor is occupied by one of the largest medieval hanging halls in the world, called "Living" (81x27 m, h 27) with beautiful vaulted wooden ceiling and walls decorated with a magnificent cycle of frescoes astrological subjects (1425-1440) depicting the theories of Peter of Abano on influences of the stars in life and human activities.
The hall houses a giant wooden horse, built for a tournament in 1466 and a contemporary realization of the Foucault pendulum, set up scientific project of the Department of Physics, University of Padua.
Downstairs, in the so-called Sottosalone, typical shops are lined historic Padua where to find the first fruits of the season and the best food and wine.
Palazzo della Ragione dominates the two large squares of herbs and fruits, bustling markets and picturesque locations daily.

Half-day guided tour to Venice
July 12 and 13, 2012

• 1.30 pm: transfer by train from Padua train station to Venice- Saint Lucia;
• arrival in Venice and walk around the city including streets, squares, churches and palaces
• free time for individual visits of the Ducal Palace, the Basilica of San Marco or shopping
• expected return by train to Padua at about 7.00 pm.

Sailing among the Venetian Villas along the Brenta River
Since the 16Th century, canals and rivers that could be easily reached from Venice where enriched by magnificent summer estates.  Here, not far from the city, rich nobles spent their holidays. They left Venice on comfortable barges, “Burchielli”, that could navigate this shallow river. The boats were pushed by oars from St. Mark’s through the Venetian lagoon to Fusina and then pulled to Padua by horses along the Brenta River.
The boat trip was fascinating, young ladies, gallant men, nobles and adventurers were entertained by comedians and musicians.
Nowadays various and comfortable boats navigate the waters of the Brenta river from Venice to Padua and vice versa, to bring thousands of tourists to visit the venetian villas, making a daily trip, stopping at the most famous and beautiful villas linked to famous names such as Palladio and Tiepolo for a guided tour of the interior. A guided tour across nine swing bridges and five locks, water lift that allow the vies of the change of the water level of ten meters between Venice and Padua.

• 8.30 pm - Padua: with your bus, transfer from the landing stage of the historical 1500's stairways of Portello, ancient river port of Padua; start cruising towards Venice along the course of the old Venetian burchielli of the 18th century; cruise and illustration of the superb Villa Giovanelli at Noventa Padovana, one of the most beautiful villas of  late-seventeenth-century in Veneto, Villa Temple with its distinctive pronaos and beautiful staircase adorned with statues;
• passing through the Noventa Padovana Lock and the Stra lock and descent to the water level;
•  arrival in Strà and pause to  visit  the frescoed rooms and the  park of Villa Pisani;
• boarding and cruise to Dolo;  passing through the Dolo Lock and descent to the water level;

• 08.30 am or 1.30 pm: transfer by your bus to Villa Foscari, known as La Malcontenta, to visit the frescoed halls inside (entrance fee 10,00€ per person); after the visit boarding and navigation among villas, coastal villages, locks and swing bridges with illustrations of the various Villas seen from the river;
• stop at Mira to visit inside the frescoed rooms and the park of Villa Widmann;
• crossing of the lock of Mira, and ascent of the river;
Navigation to the wharf of Mira Villa Leoni;
• 12.00 am or 5.00 pm: return by coach to Padova with expected arrival at the hotel after 40 minutes

• Rest at Cittadella, a walled city famous for its renowned defensive wall, about 1.5 km, with 32 towers   and 4 entrance doors, completely surrounded by a moat;

• arrival at Monselice, ancient Mons Silicis, walled town of which the massive tower is a witness, the old Cathedral, the Castle and the Tower; significant is the climb of the precious Rocca paved and adorned and Villa Duodo, by Scamozzi. Visit to the Cà Marcello, an old castle with beautiful Carrara rooms full of pieces of furniture and a fine collection of antique weapons and armor;
• Transfer to Este and visit to the ancient city wall, which rises in the plain between the mountains of southern Euganei Hills. Walk along the walls of the castle and visit to the Cathedral of Santa Tecla, the only one in Italy to have a perfect elliptical shape, where it is kept an altar-piece by Tiepolo;

Walk to the "Via Sacra", gem of the early seventeenth century, the work done on the project  by Vincenzo Scamozzi, a Palladio’s pupil.
• The tour continues to Este, at the foot of the Euganei Hills, and visit to the ancient city wall, which rises in the plain between the mountains of southern Euganei Hills. Walk along the walls of the castle and visit to the Cathedral of Santa Tecla, the only one in Italy to have a perfect elliptical shape, where it is kept an altar-piece by Tiepolo;
• Pause for lunch
• Transfer to Montagnana, the third walled town of fourteenth century, decorated with crenellated walls for over two kilometers, twenty-four towers and various fortifications including the Castle of S. Zeno and the Fortress of Trees; its walls now ranks as one of the greatest examples of medieval military architecture in Europe.
• visit the ancient medieval village and the Duomo, which preserves many works of art including an altarpiece by Veronese, statues of Bonazza and a round of Sansovino. • 8.00 or 14.00: Meeting with the guide and transfer by bus to Vicenza, a city worldwide known as "City of Palladio”, a famous architect of the Italian Renaissance.
• Once arrived in Vicenza, visit of the Teatro Olimpico, the first indoor theater of the Renaissance, designed by Palladio, wanted by the Olympic Academy, of which Palladio himself was a member. The theater is a magical, surprising space made of wood and stucco in the classic style;
• Walk for Contrà Porti, where the buildings are an evidence of the architectural glory and vivacity that characterized the city since the end of the fifteenth century until the sixteenth century. After Venice, Vicenza is the major city's Gothic-Byzantine. Continue to the historic squares of the city, arriving in Piazza dei Signori and external view of the Palladian Basilica, the old courthouse that Palladio covered in white stone, creating a play of solids and voids, which makes it look like a lace; the Palazzo del Capitanio, the Tower Bissara, and the Monte di Pietà palace.
• Return by bus to Padua at about 12.30 or 18.30.

How to reserve
You can make a reservation directly online on this site until June 25, 2012.
In case of residual availability you can reserve the trip during your staying in Padua at the Booking Centre Desk, with an overcharge of € 2,00 per person.
 
Reservations for groups
Information and requests for reservationsof planned excursions for groups  can be made by sending an e-mail  to europeade@padovameeting.com, specifying the name of  the excursionyou you want to book, the number of people involved and the date you requires.
The group rates are calculated on a basis of 25 persons.
 
Terms and conditions
All rates are per person.
Guests will be attended by multilingual guides  in all tours.
The tour point of departures are indicated in the voucher sent by mail.
Tours contemplate 25 participants at least.

Changes and cancellations until June 25, 2012
Reservations can be modified without fine, going directly to the practice online with the password sent by mail until the 25 June 2012.
Changes for groups  must be requested by sending an e-mail to europeade@padovameeting.com.

Changes, cancellation and penalties after June, 25, 2012
After  June 25, 2012 changes and cancellations of reservations are subject to fines.  Requests must be received by mail or fax to the Booking Centre and they must contain bank details for any credit money refund for those that do not participate to the Festival.
After June 25, 2012 or in case of not coming, it is expected to pay the entire penalty of the booked service.
After this date or in case of non-attendance the penalty will be equivalent of the full amount of the service booked.
All refunds will be made during the manifestation at the Booking Centre desk.
The organizers reserve the right to change the procedures of the tour for reasons of force majeure or logistical reasons.
